About the Preservation Foundation

The Dogue de Bordeaux Preservation Foundation was founded in 2021 to as a 501c3 Not for Profit Charitable Foundation (pending), it was created to help combat three issues that are problematic in the breed, Rescue Funding on a global level, Health and Longevity Research and Breed Preservation.

Created to provide financial support to established charitable rescue organizations that assist the Dogue de Bordeaux globally, to provide funding for health research and to work hand in hand with concerned Preservation Breeders to improve and conserve this magnificent breed.

The PR exists to supplement and help support independent rescue groups. There is a grant application process and approved organizations are able to receive funding to help dogues in their rescue program with a limit per dog and an annual limit per rescue group. This is to help subsidize veterinary costs of ddb’s that incur large bills for their rehabilitation and care.

With the average life expectancy of the breed being between 5-8, it’s clear that this number is going in the wrong direction. With funding ear marked for health initiatives, we hope to be able to improve the health and longevity of the breed.

Similar to the grant process for Rescue groups is a application process to put together concerned Accountable Breeders world wide in the hopes of diversifying the gene pool and working together to create a stronger, healthier, longer lived breed that exudes proper type and temperament that is fit for function. This part of the three prong approach is still in development.

With dedicated supporters of the breed, we can help reduce the impact on rescue groups and help improve the breed.
